From little things, big things grow. This thoroughly applies to the success that Melbourne outfit Rat!Hammock has seen in the wake of their infectious single ‘June’ and its successor, ‘Ghost’ which landed the gang the Triple J Unearthed slot at the 2019 Laneway Festival.
Rat!hammock are showing no signs of turning back! Bringing you their latest single ‘Pick Up’. Recorded and mixed by Sam Swain at Sunset Pig Records and mastered by Rick O’Neil.
‘Pick Up’ preserves the darker atmosphere which we saw Rat!hammock awaken in ‘Ghost’, but is undeniably complemented by lead singer Jackson’s delivery and the powerful dynamics between the band behind him/ ‘Pick Up’ earnestly explores themes of confusing and conflicting emotions and highlights acknowledging that something you deeply care about isn’t working.
Front man Jackson says “For all my trying (in the song writing process) I never managed to hit the nail on the head, so in one sense this song is a great failure, but the irony is I ended up writing a very honest and accurate song”
Rat!hammock continue to make waves with their releases and ‘Pick Up’ is no exception. With the announcement of a double-headline tour with Adelaide’s Horror My Friend and their joint single release through James Tidwell’s (Violent Soho) Domestic La La Record Label (Dear Seattle, West Thebarton etc) we will see the Rat’ take to the road to celebrate.
2019 has already seen the boys score a spot on the coveted Melbourne leg of Laneway Festival, a National support slot with Brisbane Indie legends Last Dinosaurs, as well as being billed alongside some of Australia’s most exciting artists at NYE on the Hill. Now the Rat’ are ready to take the reins on big things to come for the rest of 2019.
